2 Circle Model
Family businesses combine two very different value systems, those of the family and the business. Many of the issues that arise occur when there is confusion between which 'rule book' to apply to a specific situation. Should we deal with this issue from the perspective of the head or the heart? This model is a useful tool for explaining the differences.

3 Circle Model
As the family business professionalises the business dimension splits into two distinct areas - Ownership and Management. A useful model for depicting the overlap of these roles is the 3 Circle model. It identifies 7 different roles that participants in the family business might have. Role confusion often gives rise to conflict and this model is a useful tool for understanding the perceptions of others' in the family business system.

3D Developmental Model
If we look at each of the 3 dimensions of a family business - Business, Family and Ownership, we find that a number of key events are predictable in each dimension. This powerful model helps you position where your family business currently sits, and then helps to predict the issues you will deal with in each dimension both now and in the future.
