Creating NextGen Leaders - the Delegation Challenge
When it comes to leadership succession, one of the comments we often hear from current leaders is 'my son or daughter is pretty good, but they're not quite ready'. When we start talking about what it will take to make them 'ready', we often end up in a long conversation that in many instances leads us nowhere. Potential successors often get frustrated and come to the conclusion that whatever hoops they have to jump through, the transition will never occur.
One cause is often that the incumbent is a poor delegator who tends to micro-manage and has built a command and control management system.
When we think of this type of system the epitome is often seen to the military, where the role of the commander is to give the orders to the troops whose job is to carry them out.

How could you apply this thinking to your business? How could it apply to developing the next leader of your family business?
