T'is the Season to be Jolly... and for New Year Resolutions
T'is the season to be jolly...and of New Year Resolutions
Best wishes for the festive season and 2014 from all at the Family Business Resource Centre.
Here's a great video we recently came across to get you thinking about the New Year. It put's life into perspective in a language we can all understand, jelly beans...

The festive season is time of goodwill and celebration. However for many it is also a difficult time. Our thoughts go out to those who have lost a loved one in the past year and whose absence will be particularly noticeable. Also to those, who for financial reasons, are unable to provide for their children in the way they would like to.
We also think of those families who, through the pressure brought about by being in business together, find that relationships have deteriorated to the point where the family can't enjoy Christmas lunch together.
Some families believe that they have reached a point of no return, that it's easier to live separate lives for the protection of the business. Sometimes that is the case. But if that's not the outcome you are looking for, what can you do to ensure that next Christmas is better than the last?
I've been buying lottery tickets for years. As a friend once explained to me, the joy comes from the dreams you can live between the time of purchase and the reality that hits once the numbers are drawn. But if you want to increase your chances of living the dream, you actually have to do something different. There's a saying attributed to Albert Einstein that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. If you are looking for a different outcome what will you do that will ensure that next Christmas, and the coming year, is better than this one? Is sharing festive occasions with family just a wistful dream or are your serious about creating a new reality? If so, what will that future look like? Can you do it on your own or do you need additional resources? Who can help you? What are you prepared to give up in order to achieve your desired outcome?
I believe setting frivolous New Year's resolutions do more harm than good. Unfortunately a month later most are forgotten. So here's my tip for successful New Year's Resolutions. Only set them for those things that you are absolutely committed to accomplishing. No Excuses! So go for quality not quantity. The questions above might help.
For all, we wish you a joyous Christmas and hope that, whatever your current circumstances, next year finds you in a better place. As in prior years we will be making a donation to the Mindshop Excellence Trust in lieu of sending Christmas cards.
Our office will be closed from noon on Friday 20th December to Monday 20th January. We will be monitoring emails during that period, but response time may not be up to our usual standard.
