Fully Documented Family Charter
I've just received an enquiry asking me for an example of a full family policy document. Here's my response...
I’ve attached a sample but it is by no means comprehensive. In fact I don’t believe that any document will capture all the issues that might arise in a family business. The power of the document lies in the trust, respect, decision making and conflict management skills that the family develops during the process of creating it. Once you have these, you can fix any issue.
In fact I believe getting your hands on such a document (other than as an example of the issues it can cover) is more dangerous than the good it can do. It can give a family the delusion that they have covered all bases and result in not going through the pain (and it is a painful process) of building the strength and resilience to deal with anything that might arise.
If you'd like a step by step overview of the process that we use when working wiith families this short video might help.
